Microsoft 365 Roadmap Updates

The Microsoft 365 Roadmap changes constantly. That’s why each week, Planet distills the updates simply and clearly to keep you “In The Know.”

Commercial Priority Update

Week of July 23, 2026

Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention is adding the ability to block specific external domains or individual users from accessing sensitive files in SharePoint and OneDrive, giving admins precise control over who can reach protected content. When a DLP policy detects a file access attempt by a blocked external domain or user, access is denied before exposure occurs, moving enforcement from detection after the fact to prevention at the point of contact. For organizations managing sensitive content shared across organizational boundaries, this update closes a meaningful gap between labeling files as sensitive and actually controlling who can open them. The feature is currently rolling out.

Microsoft Purview: Integration with Entra GSA Internet Access to enable sensitive file filtering at the network layer

Extend Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies to filter sensitive files at the network layer by integrating with Entra Global Secure Access Internet Access. This integration enables organizations to intercept and inspect files at the network layer and enforce restrictive actions based on DLP policy conditions. It helps prevent sensitive data from being shared with untrusted cloud applications through browsers, apps, APIs, add-ins, and more – including generative AI platforms, cloud storage, and content-sharing services – while managing alerts and incidents through Purview and Microsoft Defender. Updated July 17, 2026: The GA release of this item has moved. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Microsoft Copilot (Microsoft 365): Session and Response Sharing in M365 Copilot

Session and Response Sharing let Microsoft 365 Copilot users share Copilot chat content through a link. Session Sharing shares a full chat session, while Response Sharing shares a single Copilot response. The shared content opens as a read-only view, and recipients can continue from it in their own Copilot chat. This gives Copilot users an easier and more controlled way to share useful Copilot outputs with coworkers instead of copying and pasting. It helps teams reuse work, share context, and collaborate more efficiently while keeping sharing within organizational controls.

Microsoft Teams: Explicit recording and transcription consent for PSTN participants now available in GCC High and DoD

We are introducing explicit recording and transcription consent support for PSTN participants joining Microsoft Teams meetings in GCC High and DoD environments. This feature is already available in Public and GCC clouds and is now being extended to sovereign environments. After this rollout, when a meeting is being recorded or transcribed, PSTN participants will be prompted to provide explicit consent before they can unmute and participate. If consent is not provided, participants will remain muted for the duration of the meeting. This update aligns PSTN behavior with the existing consent experience in Teams clients and enhances compliance by ensuring all participants actively acknowledge recording and transcription. This rollout may impact PSTN users joining meetings where recording or transcription is enabled. We recommend informing users about this change so they are prepared to provide consent when prompted.

We are also making it easier to manage caption settings directly within the meeting. By clicking the existing gear icon in the live captions pane, users will see a consolidated menu to quickly configure spoken language, caption styles, and profanity filters without navigating to separate settings panels. Additionally, this menu includes a new toggle to turn on live captions by default for all meetings, as well as a new thumbs-up/thumbs-down feedback mechanism to easily share input on the captioning experience.

This works for any content shared while sharing your desktop screen (including but not limited to documents, slides, spreadsheets, and websites, irrespective of platform or app). Support for PowerPoint Live and Whiteboard in Teams will be available at a later date. Updated July 16, 2026: We have decided not to move forward with this change at this time.
