Introducing the ability to define how long content captured by a Communication Compliance policy is retained. Microsoft Purview Communication Compliance provides the tools to help organizations detect regulatory compliance violations (e.g. SEC or FINRA), such as sensitive or confidential information, harassing or threatening language, and sharing of adult content. Built with privacy by design, usernames are pseudonymized by default, role-based access controls are built in, investigators are opted in by an admin, and audit logs are in place to help ensure user-level privacy.

Data Lifecycle Management allows compliance admins to retain, review and delete content in M365 workloads. Deletion of content to adhere to compliance requirements, admins can set up Retention policies or labels. To help prevent inadvertent data loss, M365 retention labels policies and M365 retention policies do not hard delete content immediately and keeps the data in Recycle Bins for 93 days for ODSP. Hard delete itself is a very costly process as it opens Microsoft to heavy legal implications in case of any data loss incident that may occur due to a misconfigured policy or regression. Priority Cleanup feature allows users to bypass retention, and eDiscovery holds to help customers comply to changing legal/compliance requirements or manage data spillage scenarios. This feature requires the ability to hard delete specific files from the scoped locations.  Ability to select hard delete configuration for a Priority cleanup policy for OneDrive and SharePoint content and skip recycle bins.

In the updated model, DLM is billed based on the total volume of text messages managed by a DLM policy. Each non-Microsoft 365 generative AI prompt and response is treated as an individual text message and is retained and deleted according to the configured Microsoft Purview retention settings. Billing is calculated on the managed text messages in storage, at a rate equivalent to $6 per one million text messages per month. Customer impact Customers will need to migrate from the legacy meter to the new meter. Based on current analysis, the overall cost impact is expected to be cost-neutral or lower for customers under the new billing model.

What you need to know: Users who have only WHfB or macOS PSSO are now treated as MFA-capable and will no longer be automatically prompted to register another method. Because WHfB and macOS PSSO are tied to a specific device, we recommend having users register a portable method, such as a passkey or Microsoft Authenticator, during onboarding so they can complete MFA from any device.

Microsoft Teams: Upgraded call history in Teams Calls app

Call history in the Teams Calls app is being upgraded to make it easier to find and act on past call activity. Missed calls and associated voicemails will be consolidated into a single call history entry, reducing clutter and simplifying follow-up. Call history will also expand from 100 records to up to 3,000 records or 6 months of history, whichever limit is reached first, giving users more context when they need it.
