Microsoft Edge: Use Primary work profile as default profile to open external links
Following further review, this feature has returned to the development phase. We apologize for any inconvenience. Microsoft Edge currently opens external links using the Last Used profile by default. While for enterprise users, the Primary Work Profile (signed in with a Microsoft Entra ID for enrolling the device) is normally the best profile for opening external links. With this feature, for Windows, Edge will check if it the Primary Work Profile exists and make it the default profile for opening external links if available. For Mac and Linux, if only one work profile signed in with a Microsoft Entra ID account is found, it’s treated as the Primary Work Profile. Admins can config the policy EdgeOpenExternalLinksWithPrimaryWorkProfileEnabled to turn this feature off.

Microsoft Purview Compliance Portal: Data Lifecycle Management- Introduction of secure workflow to bypass retention holds and delete content on OneDrive and SharePoint Online
We’re introducing a new capability in Microsoft Purview Data Lifecycle Management to bypass retention policies and delete content from OneDrive and SharePoint Online before the hold or retention policy duration expires. This feature helps organizations manage Copilot-related artifacts such as Teams recordings and transcripts independently of OneDrive retention polices, so organizations can decide how long they want to keep and when to delete this content.
The feature includes support for simulation testing, audit, and disposition reviews, and introduces admin policy authoring flows. These flows are governed by Microsoft Purview role groups to enable the creation and enforcement of defensible deletion policies.

As compared to customer managed storage – the admin need not configure any additional settings like adding a blob, assigning permissions, selecting storage in policy workflow.

Microsoft Teams: New audit logs for Give control, Take control, and Screensharing
IT administrators will now have the ability to access detailed logs for both the “Give and Take Control” and “Screenshare” features. These logs will provide comprehensive information, including the names and timestamps of the individuals involved in each action. Specifically, the logs will indicate who initiated or received control, as well as who started the screenshare session, along with the corresponding timestamps and names. This enhancement ensures greater transparency and accountability for all control and screenshare activities. Accessible in Teams Admin Centre.

OneDrive: Prompt for permitted users to sign in to OneDrive app with personal Microsoft account
Users have long been able to use personal Microsoft accounts with the OneDrive app on corporate Windows devices—unless restricted by admin policy. This new feature introduces a prompt only when a personal account is already signed in on the device, encouraging users to also sign in to the OneDrive app with that account. Administrators who have already restricted personal accounts on corporate devices can continue to manage this as before. Organizations that have already disabled personal OneDrive accounts on corporate devices with the DisablePersonalSync policy will not see this prompt. Administrators can also suppress it using the DisableNewAccountDetection policy. More information on configuring policies can be found here:

In this update, we are adding two new email indicators to Insider Risk Management. 1. Sending email with attachments to free public domains – This alerts when business-sensitive data is potentially leaked from a work email account to a free public domain email, potentially leading to a data security incident. 2. Sending email with attachments to self – This alerts when business-sensitive data is potentially leaked from a work email account to user’s personal email account or emailing self, potentially leading to a data security incident. Admins with appropriate permissions can enable these indicators from the settings page and use these new indicators in the data leaks or data theft policy template. Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management correlates various signals to identify potential malicious or inadvertent insider risks, such as IP theft, data leakage, and security violations. Insider Risk Management enables customers to create policies based on their own internal policies, governance, and organizational requirements. Built with privacy by design, users are pseudonymized by default, and role-based access controls and audit logs are in place to help ensure user-level privacy.
