Week of August 27, 2026
Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management is expanding to cover AI agents, introducing agent-specific indicators and risk scoring built around agentic activities. As declarative agents and Copilot-powered workflows gain the ability to access enterprise data, execute actions, and make decisions at machine speed, the insider risk they represent is meaningfully different from human user activity — and now gets treated that way. Admins can monitor agent behavior through the same IRM framework used for human insiders, with scoring and indicators tailored to how agents interact with sensitive data. For GCC High organizations adopting Copilot agents in regulated workflows, this update provides governance coverage that keeps pace with the expanding agentic surface. The feature is currently in development and expected to begin rolling out in October 2026.

When scoping policies to Microsoft 365 Groups in Teams DLP policies, members of Teams standard and shared channel chats associated with the groups are currently protected by the policies. This change will automatically extend the protection to standard/shared channels chats in other Microsfot 365 Groups and 1:1/n (non-channel) chats. There is no longer a need to add users, security groups or other Microsoft 365 groups to protect these chats, except for customers that have enabled optical character recognition (OCR) in Teams chat.

Microsoft Purview: Data Lifecycle Management – Hard delete capability for OneDrive and SharePoint through secure priority cleanup workflows
Data Lifecycle Management allows compliance admins to retain, review and delete content in M365 workloads. Deletion of content to adhere to compliance requirements, admins can set up Retention policies or labels. To help prevent inadvertent data loss, M365 retention labels policies and M365 retention policies do not hard delete content immediately and keeps the data in Recycle Bins for 93 days for ODSP. Hard delete itself is a very costly process as it opens Microsoft to heavy legal implications in case of any data loss incident that may occur due to a misconfigured policy or regression. Priority Cleanup feature allows users to bypass retention, and eDiscovery holds to help customers comply to changing legal/compliance requirements or manage data spillage scenarios. This feature requires the ability to hard delete specific files from the scoped locations. Ability to select hard delete configuration for a Priority cleanup policy for OneDrive and SharePoint content and skip recycle bins.

To improve productivity and reduce perceived latency, we are introducing asynchronous file uploads. Microsoft Teams: Front-of-room view control for Town Hall in Teams Rooms on Android
When a Teams Rooms on Android is invited as a meeting presenter, the front-of-room display defaults to the attendee view. Presenters always have full control from the console, including green room and off-stage management, and can switch the front-of-room display to presenter view without impacting attendees. Microsoft Teams: New layout when sharing content for Teams events
Organizers and presenters who have access to production tools will see updated layout options when sharing content in the “Manage what attendees see” experience for Teams events. The available layouts are “Speaker focused”, “Content focused”, and “Content only”. The new Speaker focused layout prioritizes presenter video alongside shared content for greater visibility. This feature is available for Teams events organizers with a Teams Enterprise license. This feature is available on Teams for Windows desktop and Mac desktop.

OneDrive: PDF annotation for sensitivity-label protected PDFs in the OneDrive apps (iOS and Android)
The Microsoft OneDrive apps for iOS and Android will let users annotate PDFs protected by a Microsoft Purview Information Protection sensitivity label that applies encryption — without removing or weakening the label. Users with edit/annotate rights can add a full set of annotations — including ink, highlight, free text, notes, signatures, image/shape/date stamps, bookmarks, and form fields — directly in the OneDrive mobile PDF viewer; the file’s encryption and usage rights are preserved end to end. This applies to the OneDrive apps for iOS and Android only (not OneDrive or SharePoint on the web). The feature is enabled by default for eligible users and requires no new admin action.

Microsoft Teams: Enhanced live captions settings and right-side panel view
We are improving the live captions experience in Microsoft Teams with new viewing layouts and streamlined configuration options. Users can now view live captions in a new right-side panel, in addition to the existing options of viewing them at the top or bottom of the screen, or popping them out into a separate window. We are also making it easier to manage caption settings directly within the meeting. By clicking the existing gear icon in the live captions pane, users will see a consolidated menu to quickly configure spoken language, caption styles, and profanity filters without navigating to separate settings panels. Additionally, this menu includes a new toggle to turn on live captions by default for all meetings, as well as a new thumbs-up/thumbs-down feedback mechanism to easily share input on the captioning experience.
