GCC High Priority Update
Week of January 15, 2026
Microsoft is extending Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management to AI agents, enabling organizations in highly regulated environments to monitor agent-driven activity with the same rigor applied to human insiders. The update introduces agent-specific risk indicators and scoring to help identify potential data leakage, IP exposure, or security violations tied to automated actions, while preserving privacy through pseudonymization and role-based access controls. This enhancement supports stronger governance of AI-enabled workflows in GCC High and DoD tenants and is currently in development with expected availability in February 2026.

Microsoft Teams: Private channels increased limits and transition to group compliance
We are updating private channels to use a shared mailbox, similar to shared channels, instead of messages being stored in each user’s mailbox. With this change, compliance policies set for the team’s Microsoft 365 group will apply to private channels messages going forward. In addition, teams will support more than 30 private channels, up to the 1000 total channel limit for the team. Private channel member limits will increase from 250 to 5000. You will also be able to schedule meetings in private channels.

Microsoft Purview: Insider Risk Management- Insider risk management for agents
As AI agents become deeply embedded in enterprise ecosystems, they are evolving beyond simple tools or workflows into a digital workforce. These agents can interpret intent, access and manipulate enterprise data, execute actions and even make real-time decisions. In many ways, they operate like human insiders only with machine-speed data processing capabilities.
To govern and protect these agents effectively, Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management is being expanded to agents, with specific indicators and insider risk score built for agents based on agentic activities.
Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management correlates various signals to identify potential malicious or inadvertent insider risks, such as IP theft, data leakage, and security violations. Insider Risk Management enables customers to create policies based on their own internal policies, governance, and organizational requirements. Built with privacy by design, users are pseudonymized by default, and role-based access controls and audit logs are in place to help ensure user-level privacy.
