Commercial Priority Update
Week of August 6, 2026
Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels now apply directly to Microsoft Entra cloud security groups, closing a governance gap that left security groups outside the classification model you already use everywhere else. The same labels you publish in the Purview portal and configure for Microsoft 365 groups and sites now carry over automatically, with no separate label setup required. That means the access controls and classification tied to sensitive data extend to the security groups actually gating that access, not just the collaboration groups around it. It’s a small config change with an outsized governance payoff for any org running a mature labeling strategy. The feature is currently in development and expected to begin rolling out in August 2026.

Microsoft Teams: Improved organization for muted and meeting chats
Microsoft Teams automatically organizes your chats with new built in sections that help reduce clutter and keep conversations easy to find. Muted chats (on by default) are grouped together in a dedicated area, while meeting chats (off by default) can be collected into a single section for quick access. You’re always in control, as each section can be turned on or off based on your preferences. The new Meeting chats section will replace the Meeting chats filter, that was previously available at the top of the chat and channel list. Updated July 20, 2026: We have temporarily rolled back this feature. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Outlook: New Copilot entry point in Classic Outlook
We’ve introduced a new experience for Copilot in the apps—a consistent entry point across apps that sits above your work and understands the context beneath it. Rather than scattering touchpoints across the interface, it anchors Copilot as one connected system across Microsoft 365, surfacing relevant actions that help you stay in flow. With this release, we are rolling out this new experience – already available across other Outlook endpoints, as well as in Word, Excel and PowerPoint – to classic Outlook.

Microsoft Teams: Unified Agent and App Installation Management Across Microsoft 365 and Teams Admin Center
Administrators using the Microsoft 365 admin center and Teams admin center will be able to apply app and agent installation changes once and have them consistently enforced across Teams, Outlook, and Microsoft 365 Copilot. Previously, installation changes made in the Microsoft 365 admin center only applied to Outlook and Microsoft 365, while changes made in the Teams admin center only applied to Teams. With this update, app and agent installation is unified across all supported surfaces, enabling a more consistent and streamlined admin experience.

SharePoint: Flexible Section Authoring Improvements
We’ve enhanced Flexible Sections in SharePoint Pages to make page layout creation more intuitive and predictable. Authors can now use visual column layout guides that mirror familiar sections, keep gridlines and layout guides visible while editing, and convert existing sections into Flexible Sections with a single click while preserving content placement. These improvements help authors create richer page designs with greater confidence and consistency across desktop, mobile, and email experiences.

Designed for capturing offline work moments—including in-person conversations, whiteboard sessions, and personal notes. This capability is already generally available on OneNote for iPhone and iPad.

Corporate communications teams now have a unified place to create, distribute, and measure their news without leaving the platform where their news content already lives. This feature applies only to Amplify users as of now. This is a complementary way to create lighter weight campaigns inside a SharePoint site as a way to organize your SharePoint news posts and benefit from campaign analytics directly from SharePoint.

Copilot in Teams can analyze content shared on-screen during a meeting when recording is enabled. This, along with meeting transcript and meeting chat, enables users to ask Copilot to summarize or find specific information from screen-shared content (e.g., ‘Which products had the highest sales?’), consolidate insights across both the conversation and presentation (e.g., ‘What was the feedback per slide?’), and draft new content based on the entire meeting (e.g., ‘Rewrite the paragraph shared on the screen incorporating the feedback from the chat’). This works for any content shared while sharing your desktop screen (including but not limited to documents, slides, spreadsheets, and websites, irrespective of platform or app). Support for PowerPoint Live and Whiteboard in Teams will be available at a later date. Updated July 16, 2026: We have decided not to move forward with this change at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience.
