Microsoft Teams is adding VDI optimization monitoring to the Best practice configurations dashboard, giving administrators visibility into where meeting quality issues are caused by unoptimized virtual desktop infrastructure. This update allows IT teams to quickly identify affected users and locations, helping them prioritize remediation and improve meeting performance across VDI environments. By surfacing optimization gaps directly in the admin experience, Microsoft is making it easier to manage Teams at scale in complex enterprise deployments. The feature is rolling out now, with availability beginning in January 2026 for worldwide standard multi-tenant and GCC environments.

A new agents usage report will be available in the Microsoft 365 admin center. The report will be scoped to include agents in M365 Copilot and Copilot Chat with usage by both M365 Copilot licensed and unlicensed users. The report will include total active agent users, total active agents, active users segmentation by licensed and unlicensed users, and active users and active agents segmentation by publisher type (i.e. user-created agents, agents built by your org, agents built by Microsoft, agents built by Microsoft partners). Microsoft Entra: App Deactivation
Admins or app owners can now safely pause an app’s access to Entra protected resources without deleting it or disrupting configuration. When deactivated, the app and its service principals globally (across tenants) can’t request new tokens and user sign ins are blocked, while existing tokens simply expire on their normal schedule. This makes it easy for admins to temporarily freeze suspicious or unused apps during investigations, bulk cleanup, or tenant hygiene work. This capability will initially be available via Microsoft Graph API.

The Researcher Agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot empowers users to create rich, detailed reports on any topic they choose whether from work or web content. We are introducing new output formats in the Researcher Agent that will allow users to export and consume generated reports in their preferred formats. People Skills is expanding AI powered skill inferencing to include Microsoft 365 E3 and E5 licensed users. Previously, AI powered skill inferencing was available only to Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft Viva licensed users. With this update, admins will have the option to turn on AI powered skill inferencing for Microsoft 365 E3 / E5 licensed users directly in the Microsoft 365 admin center. AI powered skill inferencing uses AI to automatically identify and update skills on users’ Microsoft 365 profiles based on their work activity from the Microsoft Graph. Microsoft Teams: New Policy Setting to Require Explicit Consent for Recording and Transcription in Teams 1:1 Calls
We’re expanding the capability to require explicit consent for recording and transcription to include 1:1 calls in Microsoft Teams. A new setting in the Teams Calling policy allows admins to enforce this requirement before recording or transcription can begin. When a user with the policy initiates recording, transcription, or both in a 1:1 call, the other participant is automatically muted, with their camera and content sharing turned off. The participant will see a prompt asking whether they consent to be included in the recording and transcription.
