As generative AI becomes embedded in everyday enterprise workflows, Microsoft is expanding Insider Risk Management to help organizations identify risky AI usage across Microsoft Copilots and third-party AI applications. This update introduces new detections for AI prompts and responses involving sensitive data or risky intent, allowing security and compliance teams to surface potential data leakage, IP exposure, or policy violations tied to AI activity. These signals feed into Adaptive Protection risk levels, helping enterprises apply governance consistently as AI adoption scales. The feature is rolling out beginning January 2026.

Microsoft Entra: ID Account Recovery
Microsoft Entra ID Account Recovery is an advanced authentication recovery mechanism that enables users to regain access to their organizational accounts when they’ve lost access to all registered authentication methods. Unlike traditional password reset capabilities, account recovery focuses on identity verification and trust re-establishment prior to replacement of authentication methods rather than simple credential recovery.

SharePoint: Microsoft 365 Archive in GCC-L
Microsoft 365 Archive is designed to help organizations manage their inactive data efficiently. It allows you to move inactive SharePoint sites into a cold storage tier, which reduces storage costs while maintaining the same searchability, security, and compliance standards as active data. This feature is already available in Production and is now being released to GCC-L cloud.

Outlook: New search folder types
Search Folders are being moved to the Settings experience in the new Outlook for Web and Windows, improving discoverability and alignment with modern organization workflows. In addition, we are expanding supported Search Folder types, including Mail with attachments, Old mail, and Large mail and more. Users will also gain the ability to filter Search Folders by specific folders, providing more precise control over how email is organized and surfaced. #newoutlookforwindows

Microsoft Purview: eDiscovery-Tenant level process report
The tenant‑level process report provides eDiscovery administrators and managers with a centralized view of eDiscovery processes running across cases in the tenant—or across the cases they have access to. It surfaces key details such as process type, status, duration, timestamps, and who initiated each process, enabling better operational oversight, faster issue triage, and clearer end‑to‑end visibility into eDiscovery activity.

Microsoft Purview: Insider Risk Management – Risky AI usage
With this update, Insider Risk Management will help admins identify risky AI usage. We are adding new detections of intentional and unintentional insider risk activity on generative AI apps that can pose a risk to an organization. Activities will include risky prompts containing sensitive info or risky intent and sensitive responses containing sensitive info or is generated from sensitive files or sites. Coverage will span across Microsoft Copilots and 3P generative AI apps. These detections will also contribute to Adaptive Protection insider risk levels.
Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management correlates various signals to identify potential malicious or inadvertent insider risks such as IP theft, data leakage, and security violations. Insider Risk Management enables customers to create policies based on their own internal policies, governance, and organizational requirements. Microsoft Teams: Line key configuration on Teams Phone devices from Teams Admin Center (TAC)
This feature allows admins to configure line keys for various scenarios on Teams phone devices, including personal and common area phones (CAP). Microsoft Teams: Camera view switching in multi-camera Teams Rooms on Windows

Outlook: New third-party enriched properties available for customizing profile cards
Customers can now customize their M365 profile cards by adding new properties such as Cost Center, Role, Employee Type, Employee ID and Division. Microsoft Teams: Apps in Private Channels for Microsoft Teams
Bring the apps your team relies on—tabs, bots, and message extensions—directly into Private Channels in Microsoft Teams. Microsoft Purview: Inline data security controls (DLP) for file uploads to unmanaged GenAI apps in Edge for Business
Inline protections for file upload protection are directly integrated into for Edge for Business to help prevent data leakage when users upload files to consumer GenAI apps in the browser. In addition to existing text upload controls in Purview collection and DLP policies, Admins can now detect and enforce inline protections on file uploads. Microsoft Purview: Inline data security controls (DLP) for more unmanaged GenAI apps in Edge for Business
Inline protections for text and file uploads, directly integrated into for Edge for Business, can be applied to more unmanaged consumer GenAI apps. With this update, IRM will support the discovery of sensitive files and text shared to any cloud application or website (inc. GenAI) via network layer. This capability is based on integration with 3rd party network partners (with data being captured via network layer).

Microsoft Purview: Insider Risk Management – Enhancements to variant limits and detection groups
Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management variant limit is being increased from 3 to 10 per indicator and an overall limit of 100 across all indicators. Along with this, the number of items in one detection group is being increased from 200 to 500.

Microsoft Purview compliance portal: Information Protection – Enable admins to set default document library label based on container label of a group/site/team
This enables admins to inherit document library label from the container label of a group/site/team. New and edited documents within the default document library will be labeled automatically.
